My keyboard on my Surface Pro 8 stopped working. I did get the keyboard to work for a few minutes but now the keyboard does not work.

Have you tried checking Surface diagnostic tool and after going to Device Manager for your keyboard? You can update the driver there. Or you can check if there are any ongoing Windows Updates on your device. You can also check Accessibility Settings, go to Settings > Accessibility > Keyboard, and ensure features like Sticky Keys or Filter Keys are not interfering. Feel free to reach back if any of these didn't work.

I will give that a try, at first glance I had a list of HID drivers?? in the keyboard section and was not sure which one to update. will take a look this afternoon, thank you

Have you tried running the surface diagnostic tool first?
the keyboard is still not working-
I tried the device manager, checked for update driver. scanned for hardware changes did not uninstall devices
-performed a windows update ,
-reviewed the accessibility settings, all functions/keys turned off.
