Hi @Nuyoah Ry,
Thanks for the response.
To answer your question, when you download OneNote from the Microsoft 365 portal or via the "Install Office" button, it typically uses the Click-to-Run installer, which installs the full suite of Office apps (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.), even if you only want OneNote
This behavior is tied to how Microsoft packages its apps under the Microsoft 365 subscription model. If you're subscribed to Microsoft 365, the installer assumes you want the full suite.
You can bypass the bundled installer by downloading OneNote directly from the Microsoft Store or using a standalone installer:
- For Windows 10/11: Use the Microsoft Store to install the OneNote app (UWP version). It’s free and doesn’t require a Microsoft 365 subscription. Download OneNote from Microsoft Store I'd recommend you download from the store to avoid further hassle when bypass the installer.
- For OneNote 2016 (Desktop version): Microsoft still offers a standalone installer for OneNote 2016, which works independently of the Office suite. Install or reinstall OneNote 2016 for Windows
If you're signed in with a Microsoft 365 account, the system may default to offering the full Office suite. But you can still choose to install only OneNote using the standalone methods above. Sign out of your Microsoft 365 account before downloading if you want to avoid subscription-based prompts.
