Hi, I’m having trouble with my laptop wifi and I don’t really know what else to do. I’m using an ASUS VivoBook 14 X407UAR on Windows 10 64 bit. The wifi icon doesn’t show up in the taskbar and I can’t connect to any networks, it’s like my laptop only sees ethernet even if I’m not using it.

I already tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Realtek 8821CE driver, even downloaded from ASUS site, restarted my laptop many times, and also checked BIOS settings. I also tried removing the adapter in device manager and installing again but still nothing changed.

Another weird thing is there’s this Realtek 8811CU adapter that shows up even though I don’t even use any USB wifi. The one I actually need is the Realtek 8821CE but the 8811CU keeps appearing and I don’t know why.

Right now my wifi still won’t work and the icon is missing. I’m not sure if the problem is from the driver, BIOS, or maybe the hardware itself. I just really want to fix this and make my wifi work again.

Hi! Based on what you’ve tried, here’s how I’d approach this:

    1. Press Win + R, type devmgmt.msc, and check Device Manager > Network adapters.
    2. If you only see Realtek 8811CU (USB type) and not Realtek 8821CE Wireless LAN 802.11ac PCI-E NIC, that suggests the system isn’t detecting your built-in WiFi card.
    3. If the 8821CE is missing even after uninstall/reinstall, the hardware might not be initializing.
    4. In Device Manager, click View > Show hidden devices.
    5. See if Realtek 8821CE shows as “grayed out” or with a yellow triangle.
    6. If it does, right-click > Enable (if available) or note the error code.

If it doesn't show, it might not be initialized, some laptops have a button to disable the WiFi/Bluetooth adapter, check yours.
