    Hello Victor,

Thanks for your update. Because Outlook binds the data file type at setup, you can’t convert an IMAP account to Exchange in-place. You have two straightforward paths forward:

Option 1: Create a New Outlook Profile for Exchange

    1. Open Control Panel and select Mail (or Mail (Microsoft Outlook)).
    2. Click Show Profiles.
    3. Click Add, give the new profile a name (for example, “Victor – Exchange”), and click OK.
    4. When prompted for account type, choose Microsoft Exchange and enter your credentials.
    5. Once setup completes, under “When starting Microsoft Outlook, use this profile,” choose your new Exchange profile.
    6. Launch Outlook using the new profile. Confirm mail flow works.
    7. Back in Control Panel > Mail > Show Profiles, remove the old profile that still has the IMAP account.

Option 2: Remove the IMAP Account and Re-add as Exchange

    1. Open Control Panel > Mail > Email Accounts.
    2. Under the Email tab, select the IMAP account you created and click Remove.
    3. Click New…, choose Microsoft Exchange, and follow the wizard to add your Exchange account.
    4. Confirm that Outlook creates the correct Exchange data file and that send/receive succeeds.

I hope this helps! Please feel free to let me know how it goes, I'm here to help you as much as I can.

    Hello Victor,

Thanks for reaching out and welcome to Microsoft Q&A!

If you’re seeing email accounts with long file names that don’t appear in your account list inside Outlook, it’s likely they are residual profile files or registry entries that were not properly removed.

Here’s how you can resolve this issue:

    1. Open the Control Panel: You can do this by searching for "Control Panel" in the Windows search bar.
    2. Once in the Control Panel, change the "View by" option to either "Large icons" or "Small icons" so you can see all the settings.
    3. Find and click on "Mail (Microsoft Outlook)" or "Mail."
    4. In the new window that opens, click the "Email Accounts..." button.
    5. You should now see a complete list of all the email accounts set up for Outlook. Find the accounts with the long file names that you want to delete.
    6. Select the account and click "Remove" to delete it.

I hope this helps you get everything organized! Please feel free to let me know how it goes. Take care!

    Warm regards,

    Winnie

I used the control panel to try to create the email account. I created the account in a IMAP file format instead of Exchange file format. Now the email account shows up in the Outlook list, but now I cannot change the file format from IMAP to Exchange and error occurs on send/receive mail.
