-- This is an intermittent issue that I get regardless of using Parsec, my macbook, the outlook website or app.

Sometimes when I'm writing an email, it will stop showing the letters I'm typing and then will start acting as if I am doing keyboard shortcuts outside of the email draft.

Which will then start to seemingly randomly archive or delete emails in my inbox.

This happens every week, but not every day. I'm not sure why or how this happens, but it makes it hard to write emails sometimes.

And then I have to go to my archive or deleted items and restore/move items back to the inbox.

-- Also, I don't know if this is related but I'm still having this issue when I use the space bar as I type my emails. I thought my keyboard at work was maybe having issues but now as I'm at home and using my mechanical keyboard it seems to me that it's an Outlook issue.

I typically hit space as I type normally and then intermittently the words just will not have spaces, and I have to click through to add a space in between, super weird! Happens just about every day.

-- Wanted to update you another weird thing that happens when I type in Outlook. In addition to spaces not being added when I hit space as I type an email, sometimes it starts to move the line down if I have text below. Sometimes I type and I'm just hitting space bar and it's acting as if I'm hitting enter over and over. I then end up having to delete the extra lines

What you describe is a classic symptom of a need for updates. Since you haven't provided any Version information I'd suggest starting with that. Keyboard mapping is owned by the operating system, so that's the place to start. Currently supported versions of macOS are:

    • Ventura [13.7.7]
    • Sonoma [14.7.7]
    • Sequoia [15.6]

On either of them Mac Office should be at 16.100 (or later depending on update channel).

    Hi @Ted Abeyta

I understand how frustrating it is when your keyboard behaves erratically, especially with something as essential as writing emails. Thank you for your patience as we work to get this resolved.

To help us narrow down the cause, could you please provide your macOS version (found under the Apple menu > About This Mac) and your Outlook for Mac version (found under Help > About Outlook)? Having this information will help us rule out any known software bugs.

In the meantime, here are a few things you can try that have helped others with similar issues:

    • Switch your keyboard layout. In macOS System Settings > Keyboard > Input Sources, temporarily switch to a different keyboard layout to see if the issue goes away.
    • Test in another app. Try typing in a different app like Word or Notes to see if the problem is specific to Outlook or your entire Mac.
    • Use the on-screen keyboard. As a temporary workaround, you can enable the on-screen keyboard in macOS to see if the problem persists there.
    • Check Outlook Web settings. If you're using Outlook for Web, try turning off keyboard shortcuts in Settings > General > Accessibility

Please understand that our initial reply may not always immediately resolve the issue and these steps are temporary workarounds. However, with your help and more detailed information, we can work together to find a solution. Please let me know your version details and if any of these suggestions improve your experience.
