Content-Based Contrast Adjustment Turning On Despite Settings Option Being Off
For the last week or so after installing a new Surface hardware update on my Surface Laptop 7 (running the Snapdragon X Plus chip and Adreno GPU) I've found my screen contrast changing constantly (and often dramatically) while watching videos on my device. After checking that all related options in the Settings app were off, attempting a registry edit (only applied to Intel devices...), and running the Surface Diagnostic Tool, nothing was able to fix the issue.
I found a workaround that I can use for now but it does have some downsides. Turning off hardware acceleration on relevant apps (like Firefox and PowerPoint) stops the content-based contrast adjustment from turning on - but it comes with the downsides of less battery life and a much hotter device. Asides from these apps triggering the issue, I also discovered that turning on/off the charger while the screen is on also causes the contrast adjustments to turn on. Putting the device to sleep/shutting down then turning it on again resets the screen back to my settings preference (turning the feature off).
I can manage to get by like this for now, but I still need a more permanent solution to the problem. It was definitely caused by the last Surface hardware update I installed, but I'm not sure if the installation or the drivers themselves are to blame. Is there any way to reinstall/rollback the affected drivers, otherwise I feel like my only option is to wait for the next update and hope it resolves the problem.
If you have any ideas on how I could properly fix this, or where to report the issue for Microsoft to fix, please let me know.
