Extremely Disappointed in Microsoft Outlook lack of functioning spelling and grammar check.

Consistently since the launch of the last outlook update which boasts "automatically integrated spell check" my spelling and grammar check DO NOT WORK. It takes several steps to confirm they are on and when I do, I can type randomly misspelled words and gibberish and absolutely nothing is detected. Spell check is one of the most basic functions in these products, I have sent multiple professional emails with spelling errors as a result of this. How can a permanently fix this? I can't do a 3rd party spell check on every email I send just because this function randomly turns off or chooses not to work even when it's on. Telling a user to reset their outlook or perform bug fixes is not an appropriate fix. I hope Microsoft has engineering teams working on fixing this ASAP.

By the way I have checked the editor settings for English language and confirmed corrections are ON for both spelling and grammar.

We discovered that you have to "pop out" the reply email before you can use the Editor functions, like spell checking.

Annoying, and not really what i would call an upgrade either.

    Good luck!

    Hi @JONES, NATALIE,

Thank you for sharing your experience. I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this issue has caused you. The new Outlook is still in its development phase, so occasional errors may occur during usage.

In this case, I recommend switching to Classic Outlook for a more stable experience. Classic Outlook will be supported until 2029, so you can continue using it with confidence.

During this time, Microsoft will continuously release updates to improve the new Outlook.

I would also like to clarify that, as a moderator, I do not have direct authority to participate in the development of features or products.

Since the spelling and grammar check feature is extremely important, I strongly recommend that you visit the Feedback Portal via the following link:

Once there, please create a post to share your issue in detail. This will help your concern reach other users experiencing the same problem and allow Microsoft to better understand the seriousness and importance of the matter.

You can also mark my response as “Mark as Answer.” Doing so will pin the post to the top, making it easier for others with similar issues to find and helping Microsoft respond more quickly.

I have the same issue. Intermittently works or just doesn't work. Now I have to paste into word, every email to get the spell check to function.

See Alice's suggestion to display the e-mail in a separate window, after which you should see the full set of options for spellchecking. Click the Open in new window icon User's image.

If you want to change the default, go to Outlook Settings > Mail > Compose and reply. Choose the "Pop-out to a new window" option under Pop-out settings.
