Teams displaying only chats, not channels

Teams only shows me the old chats view, despite me having had the combined chats option for a long time now (and it being the only option now). When clicking the "Chat" button, it momentarily displays the combined view but reverts to chats-only within 0.5 seconds. I can access the channels-only view via my Activities, but it's very cumbersome.
Restarting Teams fixes this issue until I click on a chat, which brings me to chat-only view again.

    Hi Sophie Amelin,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Q&A Forum.

Regarding to your description, for suitable solution, could you please share a few more detail by the following?

    • Does this issue occur on which Teams app version? (e.g., web version, desktop version, mobile version). Also, could you check whether the issue occurs across other versions?
    • Have you recently changed your Teams layout or settings? For example, did you try switching to the “Separate” view, using it for a while, then closing the app and switching back to “Combined” view to see if the issue is triggered again?

    • When the channels disappeared, did you try using the search bar to access them? If you could still access the channel via search, did clicking on any post or content cause the channel to reappear in the Teams and Channels section?
    • Could you please check with your colleagues or peers to see if they are experiencing the same issue? And could you kindly share the screenshot after the channel dissappear?

You mentioned that the channel reappears after restarting Teams. As a temporary workaround, I suggest adding the affected channels to your favorites or creating a new section before accessing any chats to see if the issue persists.

Additionally, you can try signing out and signing back in, reset the app, clear Teams cache, update Teams to the latest version.

With reset Teams app, you can follow this instruction below:

    1. Type settings in the search box, and then select the Settings app from the results.
    2. Select Apps > Installed apps, and then type Microsoft Teams in the search box.
    3. Locate the New Microsoft Teams app from the results, select the More options button (...) on the right, and then select Advanced options.
    4. In the Reset section, select Reset.
    5. Restart Teams.

With the clear Teams cache you can follow these steps below:

    A. Sign Out from Teams application and

    B. Go to File Explorer, paste “%appdata%\Microsoft\teams” in location box and press Enter.

    C. Clear files in “%appdata%\Microsoft\teams\blob_storage” location.

    D. Clear files in “%appdata%\Microsoft\teams\Cache” location

    E. Clear files in “%appdata%\Microsoft\teams\databases” location

    F. Clear files in “%appdata%\Microsoft\teams\GPUcache” location

    G. Clear files in “%appdata%\Microsoft\teams\IndexedDB” location

    H. Clear files in “%appdata%\Microsoft\teams\Local Storage” location

    I. Clear files in “%appdata%\Microsoft\teams\tmp” location

    J. Restart Teams and login your account.

I strongly recommend you following this article Clear the Teams client cache.

Thank you for your time, I'm looking forward to your response.

I have the same issue and can answer the questions in my case:

    • Does this issue occur on which Teams app version? (e.g., web version, desktop version, mobile version). Also, could you check whether the issue occurs across other versions?
      • I only use desktop version. I checked browser version, and the combined chat view with Teams and channels at the bottom appears to be visible there.
    • Have you recently changed your Teams layout or settings? For example, did you try switching to the “Separate” view, using it for a while, then closing the app and switching back to “Combined” view to see if the issue is triggered again?
      • No. I do not have the option to change to the "Separate" view in settings and only looked when troubleshooting this issue.
    • When the channels disappeared, did you try using the search bar to access them? If you could still access the channel via search, did clicking on any post or content cause the channel to reappear in the Teams and Channels section?
      • If I search for a channel, it will bring up "Teams" which is not accessible from the sidebar instead of the Teams and Channels section. As soon as I navigate away, this Teams section is inaccessible again.
    • Could you please check with your colleagues or peers to see if they are experiencing the same issue? And could you kindly share the screenshot after the channel dissappear?
      • One colleague responded and said his was wonky for a bit after the update but he had access to the "Separate" view in settings and was able to change it to fix the issue.
    • You mentioned that the channel reappears after restarting Teams. As a temporary workaround, I suggest adding the affected channels to your favorites or creating a new section before accessing any chats to see if the issue persists.
      • There is no option to add affected channels to favorites. There is an option to pin them, but it pins them to Teams which is not a view I can navigate to except through search.

Trying the other solutions, I find that resetting the Teams app appears to bring back the combined view for now. However, there is still no option to separate Chats and Teams/Channels in Settings.

I was unable to clear the cache, as the location “%appdata%\Microsoft\teams” does not exist. There is no Teams folder in the Microsoft folder.

Christian Dunn's comment presented the fastest and easiest way to fix this issue for me. Since I can't mark it as the answer, I'll paste it here again (thank you Christian!):

"[...] I did want to let you know that I found another way that supposedly clears the cache (even though it appears that some of us don't even have the cache files). I found this link which has you go through "Add Remove Programs."

edit: can't mark this as the answer too, oh well xD
