Azure Synapse Workspace Capacity Error

We were using small sized core setup on our Synapse Analytics and we are trying to process 5GB data and it is taking more time, Hence we trying to maximize the core size , but unable to do so. Can some one help increase quota for us.

From the error message, your Apache Spark pool is requesting more vCores than what is currently available in the Synapse workspace. For example, your pool with 5 nodes of Memory Optimized size requires 320 vCores, but your workspace quota only allows 12 vCores in total.

To resolve this:

Option 1 – Reduce pool size

Lower the number of nodes or select a smaller node size family in your Spark pool configuration so that it fits within the available vCore quota.

Option 2 – Request quota increase

If higher cores are required, let me know and I can work with internal team to raise a request for increasing your Synapse workspace vCore quota in the region.

Recommendation: If you are only processing ~5 GB of data, you may not need such a large Spark pool. Try optimizing with a smaller pool first, which can save cost and avoid quota issues.

Actually we would be processing 1TB Maximum which split into multiple chunk of files.

Can you help increase the quota for us And do you have any recommended sizing based on the 1TB load?

Vairamani Annamalai If you’d like to increase the vCore quota for your Synapse workspace, you can raise a request directly from the Azure portal. Here are the steps:

Sign in to the Azure portal.

Go to Help + support > + Create a support request.

Under Issue type, select Service and subscription limits (quotas).

Choose the subscription where your Synapse workspace is deployed.

For Quota type, select Azure Synapse Analytics (Dedicated SQL / Apache Spark pool) vCore quota.

Select the region of your Synapse workspace.

Specify the current vCore limit and the new limit you require, along with a short justification.

Review and create the request. You can then track progress under Help + support > All support requests.
