Copilot mobile Image Editing Feedback — Preservation of Original Features

I’ve been working on a portrait restoration project and encountered consistent issues when trying to make simple edits — specifically changing hair and eye color — without altering the subject’s original features.

Despite requesting only color adjustments, the system repeatedly changed:

  • Hairstyle and hair placement (e.g., hair behind the ear when it should be in front)
  • Facial proportions and structure
  • Apparent age of the subject (e.g., aging a 14-year-old into someone 60+)

These changes undermine the emotional tone and identity of the original image. I’d love to see more precise tools that allow users to lock certain features (like hairstyle and facial structure) while making targeted edits. This would be especially helpful for restoration artists and anyone working to preserve memory and likeness.

Thanks for considering this — I’d be eager to hear if improvements are made in the future.

    Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A and informed us about the issue. I understand that your experience with Copilot has met with some limitation in editing tools and it affected your work. I'm afraid that at the moment I do not have any workaround for these issues but since you've articulated the issue very clearly, I would advise you submit it to Microsoft Feedback Portal to let the developer knows and maybe in the future there will be a new update for the Copilot editing tools.
