Hi @T. Talati
Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Q&A forum. We’re happy to assist you.
Microsoft Teams doesn't natively support Comcast phone lines directly. To enable external within Teams, you generally need one of these three options:
- Microsoft Calling Plans: Microsoft acts as your phone carrier. Easy to set up but typically more expensive and limited in geographic availability.
- Operator Connect: Use a certified telecom provider that integrates directly within the Teams Admin Center. Easy to manage and assign numbers.
- Direct Routing: Use your own or third-party telecom services with a Microsoft‑certified Session Border Controller (SBC) and SIP trunks. Offers maximum flexibility and carrier choice.
Here're suggestions you can try:
1. Microsoft Calling Plans
- You can transfer (port) your existing phone numbers from Comcast to Microsoft Teams Calling Plans.
- Once ported, Microsoft becomes your PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) carrier.
- This allows you to manage calls directly within Teams.
Steps:
- Purchase Teams Phone licenses for each user.
- Buy Calling Plans (Domestic, International, or Pay-As-You-Go).
- Use the Teams Admin Center to submit a port request and assign phone numbers and emergency addresses.
- Notify users of their new numbers.
- You can see detail at: Set up Microsoft Calling Plans
2. Operator Connect
- Choose a certified telecom provider that supports Operator Connect.
- You'll manage phone numbers, assign lines, and configure users through the Teams Admin Center.
- Popular among users for ease of use and simpler support structure
3. Direct Routing
If you want to keep Comcast as your carrier, you can use Direct Routing. This connects your existing phone system to Teams via a Session Border Controller (SBC).
This is ideal if:
- You want to retain your current Comcast infrastructure.
- You need more flexibility or advanced call routing.
- For your reference: Migrate to Direct Routing.

- Select your country/region own phone number for support.
I hope the above information is helpful for you. If there's anything else I can help you with, please feel free to reach out again.
Looking forward to your response.
