New emails and replies are defaulting to "space before paragraph" and "space after paragraph" already selected

When composing a new email or starting a reply, the spacing settings of my signature are defaulting to include a "space before paragraph" and "space after paragraph". However, these options in the spacing menu on the Format Text tab are not tracking as turned on. It is only after I turn on both of these selections and then turn them off does my signature text return to its normal spacing. After discovering this, additional attempts at using the solution do not work, and I have to set the text spacing to larger (1.15, 1.5, or 2.0) options before it will allow me to reselect and deselect the problem options.

    New and replying.

I have several e-addresses within Outlook, and the problem is not with all. One of my signature block displays fine. Another, double spaced.

Appreciate your list, but some of the bullets are not relevant. e.g., Whether cut and pasted from MS Word or making the signature within Outlook, ALL signature block were just fine until recently. So MS did some inappropriate "tweaking".

Anyway, to answer a couple other Qs: Yes, it happens on the webmail as well as Outlook. Never made any changes to the signature block for years.

Oh, and when IN "Format Text", paragraph spacing is not available as an item. On the web nor in my desktop Outlook.

I was experiencing the exact same issue - I've just managed to fix it (although we'll have to see how long this lasts before reverting again)!

I copied my old signature that was spaced incorrectly, pasted it into a new temporary signature, and saved the new temporary signature. The formatting may get messed up from this (for me it defaulted everything to Aptos and messed with some image dimensions) but that shouldn't matter - somehow by copy/pasting the signature, the original signature will also be fixed!

Hoping this fixes things for you too!

    Hi Tanner W
Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.
To better assistance, could you please confirm the following:

    • Does this happen only when replying to emails, or also when composing new ones?
    • Is the issue only with the signature text, or does it affect the whole email body?
    • Are you using any custom fonts or templates in your signature?
    • Did you copy your signature from Word or another app?
    • Are you using HTML, plain text, or rich text format for your emails?
    • Does it happen when you use Outlook on web version?

In the meantime, here are a few steps you can try:

    1. Using Outlook on web version to see if the issue persists
    2. Recreating your signature using plain text: Copy it into Notepad, then paste it back into Outlook. This removes hidden formatting.
    3. Adjusting spacing manually: Right-click the signature block in a new email => choose Paragraph => set Spacing Before/After to 0 pt, and Line Spacing to Single.
    4. Using Shift + Enter for line breaks instead of just Enter. This avoids adding extra paragraph spacing.

Note: Please understand that our initial response does not always resolve the issue immediately. However, with your help and more detailed information, we can work together to find a solution.         Your detailed response will help us diagnose and investigate the issue more efficiently. If I misunderstood what you’re looking for, feel free to let me know or share a screenshot. I’d be happy to help further!

Thank you for your cooperation. I'm looking forward for your reply.

It appears that when Replying to an email, Outlook is adding an additional space/line/carriage return Before and After the email Signature. This is both annoying to look at and frustrating to have to constantly fix. Also, I don't want to convert my signature to Plain Text as it uses corporate fonts/colors/design/etc. Please just put things back the way they were before :-)
