Help! I received a work/school account through my job last year. Since the account was created I have had access issues with Microsoft office products on web pages. For most of the time I have been unable to log into Microsoft office products on a web browser, however randomly it has worked for a day or two a total of 4-5 times over the past 18 months. There is not discernable pattern of why I suddenly was granted access to use the web browser or what caused it to go away. My colleagues are able to access Microsoft Office products on web pages without issue.

I am however able to access the desktop app and upload the items to OneDrive (for example, I can use excel, share an excel sheet with other users in my organization, but cannot open the same excel sheet online on the same computer).

I have tried the following items-

  • Tried logging in on a different laptop on home wifi: 1/4 laptops I was able to log in on (it is not my laptop though so this is not a viable solution). This laptop I was successful logging in with has a VPN
  • Tried different web browsers including Edge, Firefox, Safari
  • Removed VPNs
  • Removed/Readded accounts from my work laptop
  • Restarted/updated the computer
  • Clearing cookies/browser data
  • Incognito window
  • Deleted Microsoft 365 Copilot application off my work computer

Times I have successfully logged in

  • Personal cell phone on home wifi
  • On work wifi at my work computer (in same session it did not work to log in on personal laptop on the same wifi)

Please see following screenshot of the error I receive below. It will say this same error for Outlook, Teams, etc.

My IT department has not been able to identify the issue. Any advice is much appreciated!!

    Hi @sb

Thank you for posting question to Microsoft Q&A.

Based on the evidence you've provided, especially the specific error message "Access to Microsoft Exchange Online is blocked by your organization's security policy" and the fact that using a VPN allows you to connect successful, this issue points almost certainly to a Conditional Access policy configured by your IT department in Microsoft Entra.

However, due to security and privacy concerns, I will need you to chekc with your IT department to investigate the following specific areas:

-Review Conditional Access Policies: They should check for any policies that apply to your user account and target cloud apps like "Office 365 Exchange Online" or the broader "Office 365"

-I'd like to confirm: does the issue only occur on your personal device while it's connected to the corporate network?

-You mentioned that a VPN worked. Was this a personal VPN service, or was it your company's official corporate VPN?

-When you tested on four different laptops and your iphone at home, where they all on the exact same Wi-Fi network? Was the one laptop that worked a personal device or a company-managed one?

Thank you for your patience and understanding. The information you’ve provided will be essential in helping me find the correct direction for your situation.
