Hi There,
Thanks for reaching out and we’re really sorry to hear about the trouble you’re having with your Surface Pro 9. We understand how frustrating it is when your device won’t start and the keyboard isn’t responding, especially after you’ve already visited Microcenter for help.
We’re here to support you through this.
The 0x00000001 startup error combined with an unresponsive keyboard even in BIOS suggests a deeper issue, possibly at the firmware or hardware level. Since external keyboards didn’t work either, it’s likely that the device isn’t initializing input devices during boot.
What You Can Try
Here are a few steps that might help:
Force a Full Shutdown
Press and hold the power button for 20 seconds until the Surface logo appears twice. This can reset any stuck firmware states.
Try Entering UEFI
Hold the Volume Up button, then press and release the Power button.
Keep holding Volume Up until the UEFI screen appears.
If the keyboard still doesn’t respond here, it’s likely a hardware issue.
Check for LED Response
Press Caps Lock or Fn—if no lights appear, the keyboard may not be initializing at all.
