Outlook error /o=First Organization/ou=First Administrative Group fix

This is happening across all devices, by the way.

Until yesterday, I was able to send myself an email and it came up with my name. I do this frequently as it's the fastest way of getting a photo where I need it.

This morning after an update, my suggested name/ contact for my email address was wrong; not my name but a strange abbreviation of it that I don't use.

Outlook wouldn't let me remove this suggestion, and it was the only option for my email address, despite my account details still being correct.

I went into it on my laptop, and everything else is normal, so I deleted the incorrect suggestion and set up a new contact to match my account profile again.

Except now there is no option to send it to my name at all, only my email address which comes up as both the address and my name, or if I try to do it as my name it comes up as this:

/O=FIRST ORGANIZATION/OU=EXCHANGE ADMINISTRATIVE GROUP

I just want it back the way it was! I didn't change a thing and now it doesn't work.

That address is the Exchange x500 address. It's only used internally. When they are visible externally it either means the SMTP is no longer valid (would only apply in business orgs) or there is a bug on the server side.

If you type your SMTP address (the @outlook.com address), does it use it or switch to the x500?

    Hi jo taylor-jones,

Thank you for posting to Microsoft Q&A Forum.

I have determined that the issue you are experiencing with Outlook displaying an incorrect character string instead of your nickname when emailing yourself is due to an issue with Outlook's Auto-Complete (Alias) Cache. This cache stores recently used addresses, but after a recent update, it may have been storing the wrong address format internally.

Option 1 – Remove the wrong suggestion (recommended first step):

    • Open Outlook and start a new email.
    • Begin typing your own email address until the incorrect suggestion appears.
    • Click the X beside the wrong suggestion to remove it.
    • Manually type your full email address and send an email to yourself.
    • Outlook will remember this correct entry for future use.

Option 2 – Reset the entire AutoComplete cache (advanced):

If the wrong suggestion cannot be removed:

    • Close Outlook completely.
    • On your keyboard, press Windows + R to open the Run box.
    • Type: outlook.exe /cleanautocompletecache
    • Press Enter.
    • Outlook will restart with a fresh address cache.

You may also contact Microsoft Support for direct assistance:

After following these steps, Outlook should once again show your name properly when you email yourself.
