Hi all,

I have an Azure SQL Database and my client (located in Brazil) wants to connect to it using Power BI Desktop. They are also using a VPN on their side.

Right now, they are unable to connect. I’m not sure what needs to be done on the Azure SQL side:

Do I need to configure firewall rules or networking settings?

What kind of permissions should I give them in the database?

Is there anything different I need to do because they are connecting through a VPN?

Should they use SQL login or Azure AD login for Power BI?

I’m a bit confused on what the proper setup should look like. Could someone explain the steps required to let an external client connect to Azure SQL from Power BI in a secure way?

Thanks!

Welcome to Microsoft Q&A! Thanks for posting the question. Power BI is currently not supported in the Q&A forums, the supported products are listed over here  https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/products (more to be added later on). You can ask the experts in the dedicated forum over here: https://community.fabric.microsoft.com/
