Hide chat in Teams still visible

Hi Microsoft Teams Support,

I’m seeing an intermittent issue in Teams Web (new Teams) with Combined View enabled.

Problem

After I Hide a chat from the left sidebar, it disappears as expected, but after I refresh the page (F5) or reopen Teams Web, the chat sometimes reappears in the list — even when there has been no new activity in that chat.

Important notes

  • The behavior is not 100% reproducible on the Dekstop.

Steps to Reproduce (Web)

  1. Go to Teams Web.

Ensure Settings → Appearance and sound → Layout: Combined View is enabled.

In Chat, right-click a conversation → Hide (it disappears).

Press F5 (refresh) or close and reopen Teams Web. Actual (intermittent): the hidden chat reappears in the left sidebar, with no new messages.

Expected

A hidden chat should remain hidden until there is new activity in that chat or I explicitly unhide/open it.

Questions

  1. Is this by design in Combined View on the web, or a bug?
  2. Is there any supported setting or policy to keep a hidden chat out of the Combined View list until new activity occurs?
  3. Why might the behavior differ between Web and Desktop?

Thanks!

    Hi @Dor

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A. We're happy to support you with your concern.

From our test results in the Teams web version in Edge browser, the hide chat feature is working as expected: when I hide a chat, it won't reappear until there's a new message or I unhide it.

However, we want to inform you that there's currently another issue with Teams channel view and combined chat.

    User's image

Microsoft has already acknowledged this issue and our backend engineers is current working to resolve the issue. In the developing process, there may be some unexpected behavior happen, and I suspect your issue may be due to this situation.

We strongly recommend you submitting your feedback about your situation via the Microsoft Feedback Portal or directly through any Microsoft 365 app by going to Help > Feedback or File > Feedback. We will also inform Microsoft about this issue so they will also aware and optimize the hide feature as well as the current active issues to provide the best experience for our customers when using Teams.

Thank you for your contribution and understanding. If there's anything else I can help you with, please feel free to reach out again.
