About dependency Analysis in the new Experience

Hi !

I am using the new Azure Migrate interface and I am wondering if the dependency Analysis using agents is maintened in this experience? if yes Where Can I find it? Screenshot 2025-08-23 at 21.10.23

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Q&A portal.

Agent based dependency analysis is still supported in the new Azure Migrate experience. You can find it inside the Discovery and assessment tool

Go to Azure Migrate → Discovery and assessment.

Open Discovered servers in All inventory.

In the inventory table, check the Dependencies (Agent-based) column.

If agents are not yet installed, it will show “Requires agent installation”.

Once the Microsoft Monitoring Agent (MMA) and Dependency Agent are installed and connected to a Log Analytics workspace, you will see a “View dependencies” link to open the dependency map.

You will need to install the Microsoft Monitoring Agent (MMA) and the Dependency Agent on your servers if you haven’t already. Dependency visualization data flows into a Log Analytics workspace, which is tied to your Migrate project.

To Associate workspace and to set up dependency visualization for detailed steps please refer the below shared Microsoft official document link:

Hi Suchitra !

I have checked for the column but we only find the dependency column, no agent based column,

and when we click on "view dependencies",we find only the agentless dependencies which is activate by default i think. so Where can We find the agent-based dependencies?

Hello nuage compte,

If you are only seeing agentless dependencies, there might be an issue with the agent installation or connection to the Log Analytics workspace.

To use agent-based dependency visualization, download and install agents on each on-premises machine that you want to evaluate:

Microsoft Monitoring Agent

Dependency agent (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/azure-monitor/vm/vminsights-dependency-agent)

If you've machines that don't have internet connectivity, download and install the Log Analytics gateway on them. You need these agents only if you use agent-based dependency visualization.

You need to associate a supported Log Analytics workspace with your Azure Migrate project. Azure Migrate currently supports creation of OMS workspace in East US, Southeast Asia, and West Europe regions. If the workspace is created outside of Azure Migrate in any other region, it currently can't be associated with a project.

Note: Agent-based dependency analysis isn't available in Azure operated by 21Vianet. You can use agentless dependency analysis.

After you've installed the dependency visualization agents on on-premises VMs, Azure Migrate typically takes 15 to 30 minutes to display the dependencies in the portal. If you've waited for more than 30 minutes, make sure that the Microsoft Monitoring Agent (MMA) can connect to the Log Analytics workspace.

For Windows VMs:

In the Control Panel, start MMA.

In Microsoft Monitoring Agent properties > Azure Log Analytics (OMS), make sure that the Status for the workspace is green.

If the status isn't green, try removing the workspace and adding it again to MMA.

For MMS agent: Please refer supported Windows and Linux operating systems.

For Dependency agent: Please refer supported Windows and Linux operating systems.

I don't have the column "agent-based" dependencies.

So How Can I download the agent as said and as shown in this image :
