I want to remove my domain from the family account, since I had to switch providers... Moved the domain from godaddy, but now the domain remains stuck at outlook.com.

Hi, Jeroen. I understand you are getting an error that your domain is not connected to Outlook. Can you confirm if the domain still shows under your Outlook.com settings or only in your Microsoft account aliases?

If the domain is stuck, Microsoft only supports removal in two steps:

Go to Outlook.com, Settings, View all Outlook settings, Mail, Premium or Personalized, and remove the domain there.

Go to https://account.microsoft.com, check your aliases, and remove or change any address that still uses the domain.

If you already did this and the error continues, the only next step is to contact Microsoft 365 Support so they can remove the domain from the Family server side.

    Regards,

    Arlene D.

    Dear Jeroen Timmerman

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A Forum.

According to your description and screenshot, I understand that you are facing a stuck custom domain on Microsoft Family / Outlook.com after moving their domain away from GoDaddy. Outlook is keeping the domain in a "half-installed" state after the migration.
Here are some alternative steps that you can kindly follow to help resolve this issue:

    1. Cancel the Installation & Retry
      • Use the “Installatie annuleren” (Cancel installation) button in the error box.
      • Wait 15–30 minutes, then refresh and retry domain removal.
      • This clears incomplete setups that block removal.
    2. Remove Aliases Before Removing Domain The second error says “probleem bij het verwijderen van uw alias” → the domain is still tied to an alias.
      • Go to account.microsoft.com → Your info → Manage how you sign in.
      • Make sure no alias uses @timmermannetjes.nl.
      • If one is the primary alias, switch your primary alias to another (e.g. @outlook.com) and then delete the custom domain alias.
    3. Remove from Outlook.com Premium Settings
      • Open Outlook.com → Settings → View all Outlook settings → Mail → Premium / Custom email address.
      • If the domain appears, remove it there.
    4. Clean Up DNS Records
      • Remove any TXT, MX, or CNAME records for Microsoft 365/Outlook in your domain’s DNS.
      • Wait for DNS propagation (usually 1–2 hours).
      • Retry domain removal once Outlook no longer detects Microsoft records.

Please feel free to let me know if you need any further assistance.

    Thank you for your time.
