Microsoft is offering one additional year of security updates beyond the October 14, 2025 end-of-support date. You have three ways to enroll:
- Pay $30 USD per device, processed through the Windows Update enrollment wizard.
- Redeem 1,000 Microsoft Rewards points if you have them.
- Sync your PC's settings using the Windows Backup app to OneDrive (this grants free ESU)—no payment or points required. All options require using a Microsoft Account (MSA); local Windows accounts are no longer eligible—even with payment.
To qualify, your device must:
- Run Windows 10 version 22H2.
- Have all pending updates installed, including the August 2025 patch KB5063709, which ensures the ESU enrollment feature shows up and fixes known wizard bugs.
- Be activated using a Microsoft Account if enrolling—even after October 2025.
- Not be joined to Active Directory, Entra, kiosk mode, or managed by MDM—these belong to business/enterprise enrollment paths.
To enroll:
- Update your system: Install all Windows updates, especially the August 2025 patch (KB5063709) that enables the ESU enrollment style and fixes known bugs.
- Open Settings > Windows Update: Look for an “Enroll now (ESU)” wizard or link. It should appear below the “Check for updates” button.
- Follow the wizard:
- Sign in with your Microsoft Account (required, even if paying)
- Choose your preferred option:
- Sync settings to OneDrive (free),
- Redeem 1,000 Microsoft Rewards points, or
- Pay $30 via Microsoft Store.
- If you're not seeing the enrollment option, keep in mind that the “Enroll now” button is rolling out gradually. Microsoft assures it will show up for everyone before Windows 10 reaches end-of-life in mid-October 2025. Meanwhile, ensure all updates are installed and that you're signed in with an MSA.
