    Dear @Hsu Yao Chang,

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

Thank you for reaching out and sharing your concern about Microsoft Teams updates. I completely understand how important it is to maintain a stable working environment without unexpected interruptions.

    How Teams Checks for Updates

Microsoft Teams is designed to update automatically in the background to ensure you always have the latest security patches and features. As part of a modern online service, the Teams client is updated twice a month. These updates typically occur when the app is idle, so they shouldn’t disrupt your workflow. Users can manually trigger an update by selecting Profile > Check for updates, but otherwise, Teams checks in the background and installs updates during idle time.

Can You Disable Updates and Still Use Teams?

Currently, there isn’t a supported way to permanently disable updates while continuing to use the desktop app.

What Happens If You Don’t Update?

To identify when desktop clients fall out of date, starting in April 2025, an in-app alert is displayed if the user's current version is between one and three months old, and if there's a new version available.

    • This in-app messaging encourages users to update to the latest version of Teams or, if necessary, to reach out to their IT admin to do so.
    • Users on Teams desktop clients that are more than three months old will see a blocking page. This page gives the options to update now, reach out to their IT admin, or continue to Teams on the web.
    • For information on new version releases, check Message Center or go to Help > What's new in the client.

For more detailed information, please refer to Why it's important to keep Teams updated.

    Workarounds:

Some users have tried launching Teams directly from Teams.exe instead of Update.exe to delay updates, but this is not recommended and may break functionality or violate IT policy.

If you prefer more control, here are a couple of options (Alternatives If You Want Stability):

    • Use the Teams web app: It’s always up-to-date and doesn’t require installation.
    • Schedule updates during low-usage times: If you’re an admin, you can configure maintenance windows for Teams Rooms or devices to minimize disruption.

I truly appreciate you're understanding on this matter. These measures are in place to keep your experience secure and reliable. If you’d like, I can share detailed steps for scheduling updates or provide guidance on using the web version effectively.

I hope this information is helpful. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.

Thank you for your patience and your understanding. I'm looking forward for your reply.
