I have a Dell XPS8930 that should be able to upgrade from windows 10 to 11. PCHealth indicates all is well the pc is upgradable to windows 11. I do not see the upgrade option in windows update. So I downloaded the "Windows 11 Installation Assistant" and it runs for about an hour, then the pc reboots and it says updating is continuing, then it reboots about and not states "undoing changes" and the computer is still in windows 10. Any ideas of how I can upgrade without losing all my apps, etc.

    Hi ,

Which version of Windows 10 are you using 22h2 or 21h2?

    C:$Windows.~BT\Sources\panther\setupact.log

Check if you can access this folder and get the log, upload it, and post it here.

    Thanks

    I am running 22H2.

The file requested is too large to upload. I can cut it and paste the text or upload and send a link to it.

    Thanks

    Hi, This is Shekhar.

It could be possible that your Dell XPS doesn't have the latest Windows 10 (Version 22H2) installed, and that is why you don't see the option "Upgrade to Windows 11" when you're checking for the updates. Now you have two workarounds for this. Either you have to download and install all of the updates for Windows 10. Or you may go for the forced upgrade for Windows 11.

For force upgrade you can use the Windows 11 Installation Assistant. This is still an official Microsoft tool and is very safe.

    1. To get Microsoft Windows 11, visit the official website at https://www.microsoft.com/software-download/windows11.
    2. Click the "Download Now" button under "Windows 11 Installation Assistant"
    3. Once the download is completed, launch Windows11InstallationAssistant.exe, the downloaded file.
    4. The assistant will again check your PC's eligibility. And then it will walk you through the upgrading procedure, which is a lot like the Windows Update process.

In simple terms, this application performs the same function as Windows Update, except it can be manually triggered.

1] Please share your setup logs for analysis. The following batch file collects the setup logs and saves the zip file to your desktop.

    1. Download setuplogscollect.bat (GitHub) and save it to the desktop.
    2. Right-click on the downloaded file and click Properties. Click "Unblock" (if exists) and click OK.
    3. Extract the batch file to the desktop.
    4. Right-click on the file and choose "Run as administrator". It runs multiple commands to collect various logs. Let it complete. It outputs a SetupLogs.zip file on your desktop.
    5. Share SetupLogs.zip on OneDrive or GoFile.io and post the download link here.

(The batch file contains plain text code. You can read its contents using Notepad before running it. It collects the setup logs, msinfo32.exe log, drivers list, boot configuration info, and the compatibility appraiser results from your system.)

2] Share your Farbar scan logs.

    • Download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool 64-bit FRST64.exe
    • If the OS language is not English, rename FRST64.exe to FRST64English.exe.
    • Run the program. Don't check or uncheck any options. Click "Scan".
    • Add the two logs, FRST.txt and Addition.txt, to a zip archive.
    • Share the zip file on OneDrive or GoFile.io, and post the link here.

Note: If Microsoft Edge or Chrome mislabels the Farbar Scanner executable as PUA/malware, choose to keep it by tapping … in the bottom bar, choosing Keep, and then choosing Keep anyway in the dialog that appears. See this screenshot. It's a safe tool used in most antimalware forums.
