Hi! Since your NVMe drive failed and you’ve installed a new one, Windows may not automatically recognize your previous activation. If your copy of Windows 10 Pro was purchased separately as a retail license, you can reactivate it by entering your product key again under Settings > Update & Security > Activation > Change product key. If your license was linked to your Microsoft account, you can also select Troubleshoot and then use the option I changed hardware on this device recently to restore the activation.
If your Windows 10 Pro originally came preinstalled (OEM license), the activation is tied to your motherboard, so replacing only the storage drive should not normally affect it. In this case, if activation does not resume automatically, the best next step is to run the Activation Troubleshooter.
- Go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Activation.
- If you see Windows can’t be activated on this device, click Troubleshoot.
- If your key is digital and linked to your Microsoft account, choose I changed hardware on this device recently, then sign in with the account you used before.
- Select your device from the list and click This is the device I’m using right now.
