On completion of regular backup, the report states some files have been skipped.

Previously, when I clicked on the "view skipped files" link I was shown a list of them.

Now when I click on the link to view these skipped files, I am immediately taken to the MS Support page, with no info regarding skipped files.

I want to see which files have been skipped, so why the redirection to a webpage?

    Hi,

I'm Sumit, here to help with your query on the Microsoft Q&A forums.

Apologies for any inconvenience you are experiencing. I am happy to help you today.

The entire problem lies in the Backup system for Windows. Microsoft deprecated it years ago and recommends migrating to a third-party solution.

Maybe you could find something in the event log.

To access these logs, follow these steps:

    Click on the Start button.

Type Event Viewer into the search box and press Enter.

In the Event Viewer window, on the left-hand pane, navigate to Applications and Services Logs > Microsoft > Windows > Backup.

Within the Backup folder, you will find an Operational log. This log contains informational events about the backup service starting and stopping, as well as any error or warning messages related to your backup and restore jobs.

Moreover, if you use custom settings, you may want to uncheck any included (checked) folders that have been deleted or moved.

I hope you find this information useful. If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to reach out. Otherwise, please take a moment to accept the answer. Wishing you good luck!

    Hi Sumit,

Thank you for such a quick response.

Do you mean this ability to see which files have been skipped by clicking the provided link has been deliberately disabled by MS?

I followed your instruction and I've found the operational Log.

Unfortunately much of it might be familiar to a programmer, but not to me.

I can't see any reference to skipped files which couldn't be backed up so obviously I still cannot tell which ones haven't been backed up.

Is there a way to decypher the Log into proper words and names of the files?

    Regards,

    Andrew
