I would like to create a Parent-Child filing systems in Teams that can be copied/pasted for multiple uses in various locations. The American Red Cross has a filing system during disasters; this template will be able to be copied & pasted to use for every Disaster Nation Wide.

Or at least, I would like that so on each Disaster, this 'PC filing' system is NOT required to be set up each and every time! Not everyone is computer savvy, as you might know...

    Hi @Lowe, Michelle,

Good day to you! Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A.

To create a Parent-Child folder template in Microsoft Teams that can be reused for disaster response scenarios (like those used by the American Red Cross), here’s suggestions you can try:

    1. Use the Teams Admin Center to create a Custom Team Template (with admin privileges)

You can define a team structure with channels, tabs, and apps:

    • Go to Teams Admin Center > Teams > Team Templates.
    • Click Add > Create a new template.
    • Fill in:
    • Template name
    • Description
      • Locale visibility

    User's image

    • Add channels (e.g., Logistics, Shelter, Medical, Communications).
    • Add app that you want to add to the channel > Apply
    • Select Submit when you finish.

For more detail, you can take a look at: Create a custom team template in Microsoft Teams.

Note: It can take up to 24 hours for Microsoft Teams users to see a custom template in the gallery.

    2. Use an existing Team as a Template

If you already have a team with the desired folder structure:

    • In Teams Admin Center, choose Use an existing team as a template.
    • This will copy channels, tabs, and apps - but not the files or folder structure inside the Files tab.

    User's image

    3. Use SharePoint

Since Teams files are stored in SharePoint:

    • Go to the SharePoint site linked to your Team.
    • Create the desired Parent-Child folder structure there.
    • Save it as a document library template.
    • When a new disaster team is created, copy this folder structure from SharePoint manually: Click “Copy to”

    User's image

    • Choose the destination Team or Document Library > Paste it.
    • Once copied, you can rename the folder to match the disaster name (e.g., Hurricane_Ida_2020).

I hope this information is helpful. Please follow these steps and let me know if it works for you. If not, we can work together to resolve this.

Thank you for your patience and your understanding. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.
