Unable to use / delete Azure AI Foundry resource

Common Reasons You Can't Delete or Access Azure AI Foundry Resources

• Missing Required Permissions (RBAC)
• Ensure your account has Owner or Contributor role on the resource group.
• Go to Azure Portal → Resource Group → Access Control (IAM) to verify and adjust roles 1.
• Resource Locks
• Check for Delete or Read-only locks on the resource or resource group.
• Navigate to Resource Group → Locks and remove any existing locks 1.
• Nested or Dependent Resources
• Azure AI Foundry projects often include nested resources like:
  • Agents
  • Endpoints
  • Finetuned models
  • Content understanding modules
• These must be deleted before the main project can be removed 2.
• Private Endpoint or Network Configuration Issues
• If the project uses a private endpoint, ensure:
  • The endpoint is approved and active.
  • DNS and firewall settings allow access.
  • You're using a supported region for the services 3.
• Service Availability or Backend Errors
• Some users have reported "Service temporarily unavailable" or "AuthorizationUnavailable" errors, which may indicate:
  • Temporary Azure service issues.
  • Regional unavailability of certain features like Agents 3.
• Sandbox or Trial Subscription Restrictions
  • If you're using a Microsoft Learn sandbox, deletion may be blocked by design. Resources auto-expire after the lab

Delete Nested Resources First:

• Open the Azure AI Foundry Studio.
  • Navigate to each project and manually delete:
  • Agents (under the “Agents” tab)
  • Endpoints (under “Model+endpoints”)
    • Other linked services Check Azure Status:
    • Visit Azure Status to confirm if there are ongoing outages.
• Raise a Support Ticket:
  • If all else fails, contact Microsoft Support with:
  • Subscription ID
  • Resource Group name
  • Error messages
