Public ip sku upgrade of availability set vm

Hi I have 2 vms in availability set both have basic public ip. I want to know can I upgrade the ip of vm one after the other. Somewhere I read that mixing of public ip sku is not allowed.Is there any way to do this without any downtime.vms are not behind lb.

That's a good description how to update the Public IP addresses of VMs in an Availability Set.

But there will be a short downtime:

I am not aware of a different way without any downtime.

Hi @Shubham Prajapati ,

in this case you can try the following steps for each VM/Public IP:

Switch the Public IP from Dynamic to Static allocation (if Dynamic allocation is set)

De-associate the Public IP from NIC

Upgrade the Public IP from Basic to Standard

Associate the Public IP with NIC

But there is a downtime/interruption as well.

Hi @Shubham Prajapati,

You are correct — Availability Sets do not support mixing Basic and Standard Public IP SKUs. As per Microsoft documentation, if your VMs are in the same Availability Set, all attached Public IPs must be upgraded to Standard.

That’s why the official guidance says you need to upgrade all Public IP addresses of the Availability Set VMs together.

Yes but availability set don't allow mixing of public ip sku there i want confirmation.

So the only option is to use the solution based on PowerShell I provided in my first answer, and accepting the short downtime.
