Step 1: Enable Legacy Document Formats in Word
- Open Microsoft Word (outside of QuickBooks).
- Go to File > Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings > File Block Settings.
- Uncheck any options that block Word 97–2003 templates (*.dot).
- Click OK and restart Word.
Step 2: Verify QuickBooks Template is Loaded in Word
- In Word, go to File > Options > Customize Ribbon and enable the Add-Ins tab.
- Then go to File > Options > Add-Ins, select “Word Add-ins” and click Go.
- Ensure qbword.dot is listed and checked as a global template. If not, manually add it from the QuickBooks installation folder (typically C:\Program Files\Intuit\QuickBooks 2024).
Step 3: Adjust Word Envelope Settings
- In Word, go to Mailings > Envelopes > Options > Envelope Options.
- Make sure the “Omit return address” option is unchecked.
Step 4: Update QuickBooks to the Latest Release
- In QuickBooks, go to Help > Update QuickBooks Desktop > Update Now > Get Updates.
