Dear Microsoft community,

As part of Shopify’s ongoing deprecation of the Additional Scripts section, we are currently upgrading our client’s store to utilize the Thank You & Order Status pages. In light of this, we are migrating all manual pixel codes previously implemented in the "Additional Scripts" section to Customer Events.

Upon further research, we found that our client is using the Microsoft Ads (Bing UET) tracking pixel on their Shopify store (birdie-alarm.myshopify.com).

To ensure a smooth transition, I wanted to reach out and inquire:

Do you have Customer Events code (or updated integration guidelines) readily available for Shopify merchants?

Do you offer any server-side event setup or alternative recommended approach to facilitate this migration?

We would greatly appreciate your guidance on the best approach to integrate the UET pixel seamlessly. If there are any resources, documentation, or steps you can share to assist us in this migration, it would be incredibly helpful.

Thank you in advance for your support. Please let us know if you need any additional information from our end to assist with this request.

Regards,
Noman

    Hello Noman Ullah Jannat,

Thank you for using our Microsoft Advertising Learn Q&A Platform!

I see you're looking to migrate the Microsoft Ads (Bing UET) tracking pixel from the Additional Scripts section in Shopify to Customer Events. As for Shopify's new integration, Microsoft Advertising has published a detailed step-by-step guide for this integration. Kindly refer to this help article, Set up UET tags using Shopify, which includes implementation instructions and the necessary code snippets for Shopify's customer events.

As per the server-side event setup for Shopify, Microsoft Ads didn't have an established procedure for this yet. Microsoft Advertising primarily supports Universal Event Tracking (UET) via browser-based JavaScript tags. These tags are used for conversion tracking, audience targeting, and remarketing. You can implement UET using tools like Google Tag Manager (GTM) or manually through your website code.

However, server-side tracking—similar to Google’s Measurement Protocol or Facebook’s Conversions API—is not natively supported in the same way. Instead, Microsoft recommends using the Bing Ads API for advanced integrations, including conversion tracking from server-side systems. You can refer to this Q&A thread for more information, Any plans for server-side conversion tracking API.

You can also check some third-party platforms that offers a workaround by enabling server-side integration for Microsoft Advertising. They provide guides on setting up Microsoft Ads (Bing Ads) as a server-side destination, which can help get through Shopify's limitations.
