Blocked apps still visible in Teams catalog – how to hide and show only approved apps?

Hello,

I blocked an application in Microsoft Teams using App-Centric Management, but I noticed that users can still see it in the Teams app catalog (even though they can’t use it).

Is this the expected behavior, or should the app disappear completely when blocked?

How can I prevent users from seeing this app at all?

My goal is to show only a selected list of approved applications to users in the Teams catalog.

    Hi @Mohamad Abou

Nice day! Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Q&A forum and sharing the details of your issue.

I truly understand your goal is to ensure that only approved applications are visible to users in the Microsoft Teams catalog, and I’m here to help clarify and guide you through the process.

When an app is blocked using App-Centric Management or App Permission Policies, it may still appear in the Teams catalog. This is expected behavior. The app will be marked with a lock icon, and users won’t be able to install or use it. This visibility allows users to request access, which administrators can then review and approve if appropriate.

However, if your intention is to completely hide blocked apps and display only a curated list of approved apps, there are steps you can take to achieve that.

1/ Try to use App Setup Policies

    • Go to the Microsoft Teams Admin Center
    • Navigate to Teams apps > Setup policies.
    • Create or edit a policy to pin only the apps you want users to see.
    • Assign this policy to the relevant users or groups.

This ensures that only selected apps appear in the Teams app bar, helping guide users toward approved tools.

2/ You can try to configure App Permission Policies

    • In the Admin Center, go to Teams apps > Permission policies.
    • Create a custom policy that allows only specific apps.
    • Assign this policy to users or groups.
    • Wait for the policy to propagate (this may take a few hours).

This limits access to only the apps you’ve approved, and blocks others from being used.
