How do I prevent the virus scan failed error on MS Edge when trying to install Google Chrome

I bought a new laptop and it came loaded with WIN 11 and MS Edge. I want to use Google Chrome instead. When I browse over to Google and try to download the setup .exe file for Chrome, I get a 'virus scan failed' error and it blocks the download. I am VERY angry that MS would do this to prevent a user from customizing their own machine. How do I fix this and who was the fool at MS that thought this was a good idea?
