A while back someone hacked my email account. They set up for a reply to every email received there’s an auto response of spam with a mine attachment. I have looked in the auto reply area and what not, but can’t figure out how to stop it. It causes my mailbox to frequently be full and I can’t send or receive emails. I’ve had this account for 24 years. I’d like to keep it. Help!

    Hello,

    Make sure you do this on a computer, not on smartphone or tablet. Go to https://www.outlook.com and log in, click on the gear icon in the top right to launch the settings.

    Then, on the Mail tab, go to Rules. Are there any rules set up here? If yes, delete them all.

    Then check the conditional transfer, again, if it's there, delete it.

    Then, check Forwarding and IMAP, If any items are present, delete them as well.

    ===========

    If you can't find anything, go to https://account.live.com > Your info > Sign in Preferences. Make sure to check all the aliases here. If you don't recognize any there, delete it.

    Then go to Security > Manage How I sign in, make sure all contact info is yours.

    Please make sure you change your password and enable two-step verficiation.

    Hi Michelle,

    Thank you for reaching out. It sounds like your Outlook.com account was compromised and is sending automatic spam replies with attachments. Please change your password immediately at https://account.microsoft.com/security and enable Two-Step Verification (MFA) to prevent future unauthorized access. Visit https://account.live.com/Activity to check for unfamiliar sign-ins. Sign out of all sessions and remove any unknown connected apps or devices. Please also remove Malicious Rules and Auto-Replies:

    • Sign in to Outlook on the web.
    • Go to Settings → Mail → Rules and delete any suspicious rules.
    • Check Settings → Account → Automatic Replies and turn off any active auto-reply.
    • Also review Settings → Mail → Forwarding and disable any unauthorized forwarding.

    Delete spam from Sent Items, Outbox, and Junk Email. If your mailbox is full, remove large attachments or use the Sweep feature. And you can try to run a full antivirus scan on all devices you’ve used to access this account to ensure no malware remains.

    Let me know if you need further guidance.
