There are a few options in Microsoft Word depending on your goal:

    1. Password protection (to open the file)
      • Go to File → Info → Protect Document → Encrypt with Password
      • Enter a password. Now no one can open the document without it.
    2. Restrict editing (people can open but not change content)
      • Go to File → Info → Protect Document → Restrict Editing
      • Choose options like "Read-only" or allow only tracked changes/comments.
      • Set a password so only you can remove restrictions.
    3. Mark as final (lighter protection, discourages editing)
      • Go to File → Info → Protect Document → Mark as Final.
      • This makes the doc read-only, but anyone can remove it.
    4. Digital signature (authenticity protection)
      • Go to File → Info → Protect Document → Add a Digital Signature
      • Requires a certificate, useful if sharing formally.

Since your document is very large (2000 pages), encryption/password protection will make the file size bigger and slightly slower to open. But Word handles it fine.
