A tag is a keyword or label that categorizes your question with other, similar questions. Microsoft Q&A previously used a "free form" tagging experience where a question author could select up to 5 tags as necessary. The new tagging approach introduces a hierarchical structure designed to improve question routing to subject matter experts. Authors now select tags through up to four nested levels, creating a single combined hierarchical tag that ensures each question is accurately categorized and directed to the appropriate experts for response.
What happens to questions using the old tagging experience?
Existing questions using the "free form" tagging experience will persist. Making edits to these questions will require using the new hierarchical tagging system.
