Business value

Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management supports large organizations that manage many sites and warehouses. The system uses site and warehouse information when it queries inventory, adjusts inventory, makes soft reservations, and makes allocations. In some business scenarios, such as in-store sales, users know and use warehouse information. In other scenarios, such as e-commerce and in-basket reservations, users need to query or update inventory at the product level without accurate warehouse information. This feature enables the Inventory Visibility service for Supply Chain Management to support business scenarios where users both know and don't know the site and warehouse.

Feature details

With this feature, you can query, post, soft reserve, and allocate inventory through the Inventory Visibility service API. You can choose to specify a site and warehouse or not.

The Inventory Visibility service API supports two options for querying or updating inventory data:

  • Specify the organization ID and product ID. You can also add other relevant inventory and tracking dimensions.
  • Specify the organization ID, product ID, site ID, and warehouse ID. You can also add other relevant inventory and tracking dimensions.

System administrators configure the required data hierarchy by setting preferences in Inventory Visibility.
