Jump into STEM with the Jr.NBA/Jr.WNBA​

Further develop understanding of STEM concepts while improving basketball skills with these activity guides designed for clinics or activity groups. These planned activities are separated into two age groups to demonstrate how Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) are everywhere in sports.

WNBA players Jewell Loyd, Brionna Jones, and Rhyne Howard bring the Jump into STEM curriculum to life through dynamic youth clinics in their communities. By combining basketball skills with STEM learning, these WNBA stars inspire young participants to explore, create, and envision exciting futures in STEM fields. ​ ​

Spark interest in STEM careers by diving into the Jump Into STEM activities, where participants learn a range of concepts through the engaging world of basketball.​

  • Audience: The content and activities are designed to be used during youth basketball clinics or activity programs and are geared towards participants in two age groups: 6-8 and 9-11.
  • Length: 1 hour and 45 minutes
  • Learning objectives for learners
    • Connect science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) to basketball, identifying how STEM exists everywhere in sports.
    • Explore the solar system and gravity through basketball.
    • Connect robotics and computer science to basketball.
    • Practice engineering concepts by designing basketball shoes.
    • Show how arithmetic and statistics are key parts of basketball.
    • Become introduced to coding concepts through basketball themes.
