Why is my Cursor lagging every now and then, also why is the Nvidia_dGPU waking randomly when its supposed to be sleeping???

Device Info:
IdeaPad Gaming 3 15ARH7, Ryzen 5 7535HS, RTX 3050 6GB, 16 GB RAM, 120 Hz (display is connected to AMD-iGPU)

Link: Video of the problem (OR) Video of the problem

  • This stutter occurs randomly. Occurs when opening the 'context menu' from desktop (right-click), opening 'power&battery' menu and 'display' menu in windows settings.
  • It occurs on any version, Windows 11 24H2, 23H2, 22H2. Tried different drivers (iGPU, dGPU, chipset, BT, WLAN, LAN, ...) and BIOS combinations & also did multiple Windows re-installations.

What fixes it temporarily:

-> Going into the safe mode (which then uses 'MS-Display drivers' and disables all 3rd party drivers) solved the stutter/lag problem shown in the video, it didn't occur anymore.

-> Disabling 'NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 6GB Laptop GPU' in 'Device Manager' also fixes the lags/stutters. I did not face it anymore after doing this.

I tried inspecting the GPU in 'HWInfo64', and I can confirm the GPU stays asleep (https://ibb.co/chFyC2sn) meaning Optimus is doing its job. I can also see the GPU waking for a split second without any reason which is not supposed to happen, it should be 0% (0W) all the time.

EDIT: I JUST FOUND THE PROBLEM IS REAL FOR MANY. IT WAS AWLAYS THERE AND NEVER GOT SOLVED PROPERLY. (I can confirm it because I have seen this on several dual-GPU laptops in the shops recently which when I reported to support & here was denied.)

    Hi ,

I'm sorry, I didn't understand that this problem also occurred on your old laptop and that this new laptop is also experiencing the issue.

I assume this because, according to the information, you've already tried updating the BIOS on other versions of Windows and the problem still occurs.

Just to be sure, does this problem occur when only D-GPU mode is used?

    Thanks

There is no dGPU mode for this laptop or the older one. Only laptops with MUX switch support such a mode.

    Hi ,

We'll use DDU to remove all Nvidia and AMD drivers and perform along with the new chipset and video drivers.

Open the command prompt (admin) and run the command: net user administrator active yes

Note: Using the amd cleanup utility use in local administrator mode which we activated in the first command.

    You can use DDU: https://www.guru3d.com/download/display-driver-uninstaller-download/

Note: DDU is a third-party application to completely delete and reinstall the GPU driver.

    1. After downloading, extract ddu to a folder.
    2. Run the driver screen uninstaller.exe application, select Model tab, put GPU. After uninstalling the GPU Driver, uninstall it for AMD and Nvidia.
    3. Click on the First option clean and reboot and wait for the process to finish. Note: Run the AMD Cleanup utility: https://www.amd.com/en/resources/support-articles/faqs/GPU-601.html
    4. After running DDU and install driver :

    https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles/fql3087f0dy2hnd0.exe

Open the command prompt (admin) and run the commands: sfc /scannow and dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth, wait for the process to finish and restart the computer.

Then perform a clean boot and if you want to uninstall applications that you do not use.

Here is a pic of all the stuff I have with me based on what I have tried so far: already tried out.png

I think you have misunderstood. I have already tried out DDU and clean install of display drivers, Win11 re-installation (22h2, 23h2, 24h2), I have also tried out the manufacturer drivers (both old and new) which you just fetched for me from here.

But since you just asked above, I did all of the above mentioned anyways despite this being the 20th time or so (in the last few months).

    net user administrator active yes

This command you gave me is also of the wrong syntax. The correct one is:

    net user administrator /active:yes

And yep, I still have the problems after all this

    Hi ,

The idea was to test it with the old drivers. Since you've already tested it, let's filter it further. I tested it with a touchpad. Does the problem occur?

I tested it with a different mouse or touchpad.

The mouse you're using is the same one from your previous laptop.

    Thanks
